How Organic Relief Essential Oils Are Made.

We use the Steam Distillation/Extraction process to extract the oils from the plants and flowers.

Steam Distillation/Extraction is the purest method used to extract and isolate essential oils from plants for use in natural products. This happens when the steam vaporizes the plant material’s volatile compounds, which eventually go through a condensation and collection process.

HOW THE STEAM DISTILLATION/EXTRACTION PROCESS WORKS

A steam injected container, called the Still, which contains the plant material, uses the steam to release the oils which are the plants aromatic molecules - by vaporizing them.

The vapor then travels to the condensation flask or the Condenser. This is where two separate pipes which allow hot water to exit and cold water to enter into the Condenser. This causes the vapor to cool back into liquid form.

From there, the aromatic liquid from the Condenser, collects inside a receptacle beneath it, which is called a Separator. Since water and oil do not mix, the essential oil floats up to the top of the water. That's where it is siphoned off, packaged, and sealed for freshness. (Some essential oils are heavier than water, such as clove essential oil, so they are found at the bottom of the Separator.)
